While growing up, there was this myth about being a dullard if you take coconut water. How tricky this was, I am certain some of us stayed away from the coconut water.
Contrary to this myth, there are great benefits of the tender coconut water. This clear liquid has long been a popular drink in the tropical countries where it is available fresh, canned, or bottled.
Wondering what its nutritional values are: the coconut water is packed with antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C and minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese and zinc. It also about 19 calories in a 100 ml amount. Coconut water is 95% water and 4% carbohydrates, with protein and total fat content of 1% each.
Now what are its benefits?
Purgative: For constipations, coconut water happens to be a quick remedy. Drinking plenty of this coconut liquid equates natural laxative.
Rehydration: In the hot and humid weather, fresh coconut water works faster than pure water when you feel dehydrated.
Post workout drink: It serves as a health drink after a tedious workout. It helps avoid muscle breakdown and electrolyte imbalance.
Weight Loss/Maintenance: This healthy liquid is a low-calorie thirst quencher that is both highly filling and satiating. Replacing your regular high-sugar drinks with coconut water makes it a valuable weight loss tool. It contains fiber that keeps you feeling full for longer periods. If you have a glass of it half an hour before a meal, you will eat less.
Though it is given that too much of it may lead to diarrhea, its benefits cannot be overruled.
